ATC DSP controller checklist: tool library, T command and machine signals
Match the ATC controller, spindle and tool magazine interfaces before replacing a control system.

An automatic tool changer is a machine sequence, not only a controller feature. The controller, spindle, tool magazine, sensors and alarms must agree about every step of the change cycle.
Map the tool-change chain#
Start by writing down what the installed machine actually does. A typical tool change may include a command, spindle position or stop condition, magazine movement, tool release or clamp action, confirmation signals and recovery from an alarm. The order and signals are machine-specific.

The B57 is retained as an ATC controller reference. Its published eight-tool library, T-command recognition and magazine-related functions are useful context for a review, but they do not replace confirmation of the real machine wiring.
Check the cabinet before choosing the controller#
Photograph the controller label, wiring board, terminal strips and the tool-magazine connections. Identify each installed input and output before assuming that a proposed controller is a direct replacement.

Ask the questions that expose mismatch early#
Before ordering, ask whether the proposed configuration supports the required number of tools, whether its machine signals can be mapped to the existing cabinet, and whether the tool-change cycle requires any machine-side changes. Include a sample of the actual program if the T-command sequence is unclear.
Signals are evidence, not assumptions#
Do not infer signal behaviour from a connector shape or a controller series name. Compare the confirmed terminals, signal states and safety interlocks with the machine documentation. This is especially important where tool release, cover movement or fault recovery is involved.
Validate the workflow after installation#
Use a controlled dry run before cutting material. Check every confirmation point in the normal tool-change cycle and verify the expected safe response for an alarm. Escalate any discrepancy before production use.
